High atop Spring Mountain lays this unassuming winery (with one of the coolest tasting "rooms") and one of the best views of the Napa Valley. When you join us this Saturday for the tasting of these rich and powerful wines don't make any plans for the afternoon. There is quite the faithful following of these small-production wines; our limited quantities will likely dissappear by the end of the weekend.

November 13/2010

The classic California "cult wines" are generally hard to find as production is small and are often reserved for collectors willing to pay large sums of money, treating the wines as trophies, investments that will likely never be tasted. Wine...never consumed? If that last sentence baffles you as much as it does us but are intrigued by the IDEA of cult wines, then welcome this new wine with open arms! CULT cabernet sauvignon ($29.95) is from small producer Salvestrin Winery out of Napa Valley. It definitely fits the description of a cult wine, but without the price tag. Delicious and just waiting to be consumed!

Movember 4/2010

Winos and TOOL fans, the Naga is an experience you don't want to miss!

October 12/2010

Blue Mountain has something new! It's not often that Blue Mountain releases a new wine, so we're feeling pretty excited. The 2009 sauvigon blanc ($23.95) marks Blue Mountains first foray with this popular grape. Plenty of research went into this project before the grapes were planted 3 years ago, including trips to France to visit with some of the Loire's top names. The work has paid off as this sauvignon is one of best we've tasted from Canada. Its fresh and appealing, featuring notes of citrus fruit and pear, but underneath there is plenty of richness and complexity rarely found outside of France.

October 1/2010

We are all VERY excited to have this producer in the shop: Aurelio Settimo. Since 1943 the Settimo family has been nestled in the heart of Barolo. After the death of founding winemaker, Aurelio, the estate was left to his daughter. Open all weekend at Glenmore Landing: 2005 Barolo ($49.95), 2004 Barolo Rocche ($59.95) and 2007 Dolcetto d'Alba ($22.95). These wines are beautiful!

Former pilot and 5th generation winemaker Frederic Mugnier has been in charge of the estate since 1985. Insisiting on as little intervention in the winemaking process as possible, his wines are elegant and pure. In Freddy's words, "the vines know the secrets of the soil and comminucates them through the grapes". We don't receive much so get them while they're here!

September 18/2010

September 4/2010

Vietti has been producing traditional wines for over 4 generations and two of our favourites are back in the store! In the northwest corner of Italy and amongst the hills of Piedmont is the DOCG Roero. Here Vietti produces one of the most rare, elegant and complex Italian whites: arneis. It is fresh and lively, medium bodied with crisp acidity. The better known Moscato d’Asti ($24.95) is also back! A slight frizzante, it has delicate hints of orange and peach.

September 3/2010

This weekend we are celebrating the return of Mastroberardino! Back on the shelves are the Greco di Tufo and Lacrimirosa, as well as a few new tasty treats; Fiano di Avellino ($24.95) and three vintages of the Radici Taurasi reserva, 1997, 1998, 1999 (all $49.95). These aglianicos represent incredible value and are open for tasting this long weekend. We received limited quantities so don't wait. Also new in the store is the cellar-worthy 2005 Radici Taurasi ($39.95) which will surely take you into the next decade.

August 28/2010

New and rare wines from Napa Valley are here...for a limited time! With less than 200 cases produced, we were able to get our hands on only a few of each. From Vinair Wines we have the 2007 True Companion Cabernet Sauvignon ($65.00). Vinair started between friends with a shared love for aviation, food and wine. Grapes are sourced from the legendary Larkmead Vineyards, with some vines dating back over 120 years! From Boeschen Vineyards are the cellar-worthy 2007 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon ($79.00) and while you are sitting on the estate cab. the drink-now 2007 Carrera (less than 70 cases produced!) ($69.95). This 7 acre family run estate creates old-world styled wines, reflecting classic structure and tradition. The winery has been built underground and is 100% solar-powered, as a member of the Green Certified Winery Program. They are powerul, full and complex with balance and elegance.

August 26/2010

According to the weather forecast, it looks like it is going to be a good weekend to taste some wine! In the store this weekend is the 2007 Pierre Morey Bourgogne Blanc ($29.95). The Morey family has been living in Meursault since 1793 with each generation making wine and working in the vineyards ever since. Oh ya, this chardonnay is 100% biodynamic! Let's talk pinot noir: the 1st, the 2005 Garaudet Monthelie "Cuvee Paul" ($31.95). 4th generation winemake Paul Garaudet insists on creating wines that reflect exactly where they come from, with as little interference as possible. One of the best vintages the region has seen in 25 years, you don't want to miss this! The 2nd red up for review is the 2009 O'Reilly's Pinot Noir ($25.95). Famous Oregon producer Owen Roe has created the O'Reilly label as their flagship for good value. Grapes are harvested by hand and with such diversity in soil, Owen Roe creates wines with distinct and unique personalities. No herbicides or pesticides are used in the making of this product. It's old world vs. new world pinot this weekend at J. Webb!

August 19/2010

Bordeaux has been steadily showing better value these days and Chateau le Grand Verdus definitely over performs on quality and price. The Le Grix de la Salle’s have had stewardship over this 110 ha Entre-Deux-Mers vineyard since 1579. With traditional viticulture they create wine of distinction and elegance. The 2006 Grande Reserve ($32.00) ages in large oak barriques for 18 months, with delicate tannins as a result. The family’s best vineyard sites are selected resulting in a merlot dominated wine of strength and freshness. This weekend we will be pouring alongside the Grand Reserve, the 2009 Grand Verdus Blanc ($17.95) and the 2006 Grand Verdus Tradition ($21.00).

August 12/2010

Two new wines from one of our favourite wine regions, Burgundy, have arrived and will be open for tasting all weekend. The infamous Nicolas Potel has created his very own shareholder-free estate after being kicked out of his negociant business. Domaine de Bellene is situated in Beaune and Potel owns several parcels of some of the best sites in the Cote D'Or. His vineyards average 50-100 years old and are all grown organically. The 2008 Domaine de Bellene Bourgogne rouge ($26.95) offers great quality and impressive value. New producer to the shop, Domaine Lejeune, also offers incredible value. All of their 16.5 acres of vineyards are located in Pommard, which is well-known for the forcefulness of its wines. The estate has been in the family for 5 generations and many of the traditional methods of wine-making are still used. Not only is it home to the oldest traditional fermentation vat in Burgundy, the initial pressing of the grapes is still foot trodden. The 2008 Domaine Lejeune Bourgogne rouge ($24.95) shows a traditional Pommard backbone with fresh fruit and a subtle spiciness.

Big, rich and delicious! With many die-hard fans this wine won’t be on the shelves for long! Open at the tasting bar this weekend is the North Valley Pinot Noir from Soter Vineyards. Oregon native Tony Soter’s love affair with the heartbreak grape started over 30 years ago. The North Valley is a blend of multiple vineyard sites in Oregon’s Willamatte Valley, offering incredible value in an accessible style; this wine has personality.
